Boston

We took a train to Boston and then got on a trolley tour that went along the Freedom Trail.  We could get off and on as we wished plus the driver pointed out and discussed the different sights.  We also took a 45 minute cruise around the Boston harbor.  It was an excellent way to see Boston.  We saw and toured the USS Constitution “Old Ironsides” and the Old State House Museum.  We also saw Bunker Hill Monument, Paul Revere’s house, the Old South Meeting House, Boston Common, plus many more sights from the bus.  We really needed one more day to see everything.

The National Monument to the Forefathers Statue.  The largest free-standing granite statue in the world.  The Statue of Liberty was modeled after this statue.  She is pointing up with her right hand symbolizing faith and is holding a bible under her left arm.  The virtues of the pilgrims are engraved on each side.

Normandy Farms Campground, Mass.

We stayed at the most elaborate campground, the Normandy Farms Family Camping Resort and it was really a resort.  They had a recreation lodge with a concierge, tennis courts, shuffleboard, ping pong, disc (frisbie) golf, a fitness center, two outdoor pools, one inside pool, a jaquzzi, a sauna, etc.  They had several playgrounds for children and a large fenced playground for dogs which even had a drinking fountain for dogs, several things for dogs to do and even a red fire hydrant.

Boothbay Harbor, Main

It rained the entire day and was quite foggy the day we were in Boothbay Harbor.    We drove around two peninsulas in order to see 4 lighthouses.  We saw 2 lighthouses, but the fog came in so we were not able to see the remaining 2.

The Flume Gorge

The Flume is a natural gorge extending 800 feet at the base of Mt. Liberty.  The walls are Conway granite and rise 70-90 feet.  It is beautiful with the ferns and mosses covering the rocks.  The Flume was discovered in 1808 by a 93-year-old lady who accidently came upon it while fishing.

Many trees sit right on rocks and their roots go over the rocks to find soil.

New Hampshire

We stayed in the town of Twin Mountain located in the White Mountain National Forest.  New Hampshire is beautiful with all the water falls and the covered bridges.  We have been disappointed in the foliage.  We have seen some pretty colors but they are not very vibrant.  We have been told it is because of all the rain they have received and possibly the hurricane.
